State Rep. Dan Miller, D-Mt. Lebanon, today announced he will be hosting a Children and Youth Disability and Mental Health Summit in Pittsburgh on March 5 at 1900 Cochran Road, Scott Township.
“This will be more than the typical resource expo where individuals and families new to a diagnosis go to collect information and connect the dots on how the system works,” Miller said. “We will be combining that traditional aspect with more of a seminar approach by offering sessions throughout the day on a variety of hot button topics in the field that we hope will be of value to parents, children, young adults, and professionals alike.”
The summit will feature resources and presenters from state, county and local agencies, as well as advocacy and support groups. Information sessions will run the spectrum from public safety, advocacy and school transitions, to employment, independent living, and adult transition.
“While I was campaigning and since I have been in office, I encountered many families and individuals who are struggling to address these type issues,” Miller said. “By bringing such a diverse program close to home, I hope that we can connect more people and increase opportunities for everyone. This event will be the first of its kind in the South Hills.”
More information will be forthcoming as individual informational sessions and presenters are scheduled. RSVP to this event here.
