Isabel Talarico wins 2012 Jefferson Award

Isabel Talarico, 12 years old, is known for being wise beyond her years. She is a junior volunteer at Glade Run Lutheran Services. Isabel’s duties include working in the therapeutic gardens, helping with the morning routine in the horse barn, feeding animals, sweeping the tack room and undertaking the thankless job of cleaning the messy stalls. Beyond the care of animals, Isabel assists riders with developmental disabilities to mount horses and learn to ride. This requires patience, courage, calmness and encouragement, all in equal proportion. Isabel is always up for the task and gives back with energy and compassion.

Isabel proves her dedication by volunteering every day during the summer, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am until 4:30pm. She always does what is asked of her and goes above and beyond her duties. In the past, Isabel even sacrificed an entire week of summer camp to come to Glade Run to assist with their special needs campers. Last year, Isabel dedicated over 600 hours of service to Glade Run.
