“Building Connections to Self Discovery”
Four
Week Workshop - Scheduled According to Interest
Therapeutic Animal & Horticultural Program for children with moderate to high functioning Autism ages 8 - 18. This outdoor four week workshop is designed for your child to enjoy and learn about horses and horticulture along with other peers. Classes are held in weekly ninety minute sessions over four weeks encompassing both animal and horticultural programming.
Goals:
- Socialization
- Increased self-esteem building
- Vocational and life skills
- Making connections with animals and nature
- Learning to work in groups to accomplish tasks
- Hands on education of animal and plant care
- Riding instruction, gardening skills, and environmental care
Animal & Horticultural Activities:
- Teaching of tools and equipment used in the stables and barn
- Animal care through feeding, grooming, handling and exercise
- Animal behavior, social interactions and communications
- Riding instruction based on ability
- Hands-on lessons of animal breeding and plant characteristics
- General plant care, seed starting, plant propagation, transplantation, composting and gardening design.
- Plant-related cooking (harvest and herb) garden
- Plant-related crafts
Who can attend: Children & adolescents ages 8-18 with moderate to high functioning Autism ages 8 - 18
Session Dates: Scheduled according to interest
Where: Glade Run Lutheran Services, Zelienople, PA
Cost: $100.00 for four weeks
